Brian Anslay (died 1536) was an administrator in the employ of Henry VII and Henry VIII, and is notable for translating Christine de Pizan's ''The Book of the City of Ladies''. ==Biography== Anslay was yeoman of the wine cellar to Henry VIII, and translated the ''Le Livre de la cité des dames'' of Christine de Pizan, under the title of the ''Boke of the Cyte of Ladies'', 1521. In a preliminary copy of verses the printer, Henry Pepwell, states that the translation was published at the instance of the Richard Grey, 3rd Earl of Kent. The book consists of a number of short stories about famous women, much of the material being drawn from Boccaccio's ''De mulieribus claris'' (''On Famous Women'').〔 〕 He was awarded land at Bradwell by the Sea, Essex, by Henry VIII in 1528. He married and had two sons. There are references suggesting he remained in the King's service at least until 1533. He died at Darenth, Kent, in 1536.
